Can someone please tell me the thread size for the head end of a 1980 CBX1000A exhaust stud?.....
Oh, and the total stud length as current problem was caused by too short a stud....

Thankyouverymuch.

Yes, oddly enough I know about those......pretty useless for me as THEY DONT STATE THE THREAD SIZE....which is what I need in order to helicoil the head!

Thread is M6x1.0 thread pitch, typical for all M6 fasteners on the CBX engine.

Be very careful when you drill for the helicoil insert. You are close to the exhaust port and there is a danger you run into it with the drill. Do you have the head off the motor?

Watch for porosity, too!

Here is a little tip: I used two exhaust flanges with the ribs machined off, mounted on top of each other on the exhaust port. Then using the empty hole as a guide for the drill. This makes sure you have the correct alignment. It is also good to mark the depth of the hole and mark the drill accordingly, so you know when you are in far enough.

It is worth checking to see if the old exhaust copper crush gaskets are still in the head. When I changed my exhaust over I noticed there were two old gaskets in the exhaust port hence that would push the collar our further possibly meaning the stud appears to be short of length. Just a thought.
