fuel filter

Post by DevonCbx »

I had written in earlier about slight sputtering at at steady speeds of about 100KMS. Could this be possible because I had put in an in line fuel filter? Is the filter sytem in the petcock enough :?:

Would not think it would be a problem unless the filter itself is pluged.

If you think your tank is starting to rust or is gunked up with gas residue an inline filter might help but i would get the tank cleaned/coated instead.
I got a tank of dirty gas once and it managed to get past two fuel filters.
My guess would be that a plugged fuel filter would cause a stutter throughout the rev range, not just at a certain spot.

I would doubt it would cause the problem Duane . Is the filter in the petcock enough ? I have found too much residue in my carbs to believe it is, however that depends on the state of your tank & that of your gasoline supplier....

Forgive me for asking but you didn`t kink a fuel line when you put the filter on ?

I use a regular inline transparent fuel filter on my 79 right before the petcock and change it annually. Works good and doesn't slow the fuel flow at all.

Unless there is a severe and permanent restriction, a fuel valve or filter will not cause fuel starvation. Figure this: Open your petcock and let a full tank of fuel drain into a can...how long does it take? 20 minutes? Now, do you think you can run your CBX in a mode that it will empty a full tank in 20 minutes? No? O.K.! That's why you don't need a high flow fuel petcock or remove the fuel filter. Enough liquid comes through there at any time to keep your motor going.

Before the petcock . . . . as in inside the tank? :?

It's not possible to overfilter fuel . . . . especially when a 30 year old tank is directly connected to 6 very fussy carburetors

 Naw, looking at the petcock its to the right as the fuel line connects, so it filters fuel before it travels thru the petcock filter/screen.
