Hello:

I recently acquired a lovely 1980 CBX (8952 km on it)

I am purchasing new tires for it as I never use old tires. Anyway the tires that are on the Lester Rims are:

Front:
Dunlop Gold Seal F11 (3.50 v 19)

Rear:
Dunlop Gold Seal K127V (4.25 V 18)

I can't read the side of the Lester rim to see what it says on it for tire fitment (old eyes I guess) but want to make sure I get the correct tire for the Lester Rim.

I was going to use the Avon Roadrider MKii tires like I have on my 1975 CB550K and 1975 CB750K bikes as they feel great.

However appear not as wide as these old tires so I a man wondering if the original owner put wider tires on the Lester Rims

I just want to make sure the bike is as safe to ride as possible. I am 60 years old and not a speed crazed nut so I am not going to go around a track or go 140 mph on the bike. Safe tires in dry and wet conditions are what I am looking for.

Plus I don't ride thousands of km/miles a year so distance the tires go is not as important as handling.

Let me know what tires these rims will take if you are familiar with them.

So those ARE Lesters! I meant to comment on them in the other thread.

I also had great luck with Avon RoadRiders. IMO your best bet is to get the wheels measured and go with Avon's recommended tire size.

Are you sure the rim size isn’t on one of the spokes?

Here are pictures of the rim sizes on the spokes

I cannot make out what is on the rear wheel at all

Rim sizes:

Front:
19 X 2.15 TL

Rear: (very hard to read as it appears to be somewhat double stamped.)
18 X 3.00 TL.

So knowing this what size tire should go on these rims. I actually like the look of them and would rather not spend money on new rims.

Each tire manufacturer have different rim recommendations for their tires, for instance some of the Avon Classic series can fit a 4.00 on a 3.00 rim. Avon classic series tires are specifically designed for narrow rims!

I have emailed Avon Tires providing them them the rim size as well as the tire size that is presently on the rims.

I hope the experts will be able to provide me with the proper choice of tire.

I will post any info I received from Avon when or if I receive it

Do yourself a BIG favor and just go with 100/90-19 on the front and 120/90-18 on the rear. They'll work fine on those wheels and the CBX cannot take wider/taller tires anyway. Shinko Tourmasters are a great tire.

Perfect. I am still waiting to hear back from Avon about them. Just rebuilding the brakes now as I like to ensure that you can stop nicely as well.
