How does candy apple red with a gold base coat look, anyone tried it? Not being a professional painter I am using the Omni-Pak paint process and it has turned out very nice so far on my other bikes. I compared candy apple red to a new candy ruby red fork ear for a 69 CB750 and it matches perfectly. The candy red on one of my 67 CL125A's turned out to be the same as candy apple red also. If I had a glory red body part I could just let the paint shop match it but I don't.

Not to take away from CBXMan or Tims, I buy a lot of stuff from both Z1 http://www.z1enterprises.com/default.aspx and BikeBandit http://www.bikebandit.com/. The nice thing about Bike Bandit is how they keep their parts fiches up to date. Anyone that has ordered thru a parts fiche only to have the order canceled because it is no longer available will appreciate that. I have used Z1's decals and they are good quality. Honda got after them about the decal repro's so if you don't see it listed for your bike email them. They have them listed for the 79-80 X but not the 81-82.

droptail asked about painting the black first and then masking to paint the color and I would like to know also. Black followed by the masked in color sounds right to me since the decals would cover the line. Both of my X's are silver and black so I plan to re-paint #2 glory red and black. Whomever did the silver/black re-paint on #2 turned out a crappy job of matching the silver and painted in the red pinstripe using the wrong shade of red so re-painting is doing me and the bike a favor. I am just starting the learning curve on paint but being a boomer that grew up with a spray can in my hand I already have a decent technique.
