Looking to recover my oem seat cover but I hesitate to remove the nails holding the trim, they're bent over from factory and I'm hesitant to unbend them to allow removal of trim.

Will they break after 45years are they brittle or are they made of an alloy that will bend back on installation?

The seat cover has a minor separation and I'll leave it as is if I'm going to make things worse botching the the trim removal and install.

They normally don’t break. They are aluminum. I have done several with no issues.

Thanks for that invaluable info.

The clips holding the nails secure were stubborn getting them to let go, I took my and didn't want to break any. Once I anneal and straighten the nails and they should be ready for reuse.

I reuse everything without annealing the spring clips. Just flatten them.

nails straightened, spring clips flattened. Im not going to install the trim until the seat material has had a chance to soften and mold to the saddle, I made need to pull the staples and tighten it up.

As it is the repro cover is identical to the oem except for the 46 yr old patina.

Robert, which cover did you purchase? PitReplica?

I recall the one I bought came from Thailand so I just checked Ebay and Pit Replica is located in Thailand, must be the same.
Other than the Patina an exact copy of the oem, I'm quite impressed.

When I originally received it I so impressed I sent them an email asking if they could make any other reproduction parts. They responded that yes they could I only needed to send them the original so they could make a copy. I'll do that this year with my headlight bucket.

I just returned from Thailand and forgot to take the broken bucket with me, a missed opportunity Shipping to Thailand is crazy expensive. I won't forget again when I go back probably in the fall.

You can get a great headlight bucket in the USA. Rick Armao has them.
