Here is my oil analysis for Shell Rotella 5W40 synthetic (diesel engine oil), About 3,000 hard miles on this oil. Judging from the wear elements, viscosity and TBN, the oil did a great job and the oil is almost like-new condition.
All trace elements in PPM.

Tony: Is there a comparison available with fresh oil? I wonder whether the copper and iron levels are that high in fresh oil or whether these are deposits from the engine?
Can you draw a conclusion as to the condition of the motor from this?

Here is a virgin analysis for CJ4 Rotella 5W40. I'm not sure if mine was CJ-4 or CI4+. TBN and viscosity are pretty much the same as the virgin oil shown here, given typical measurement errors.
All the wear metals in my analysis are very low. Copper in the range of 10...60 PPM is generally considered normal.
