I am putting rings and oil seals in a Yamaha 100cc 4 stroke motor for a friend but my regular hone will not fit in the bore.
Is there a way to do this by hand, emery cloth, sandpaper, etc. without spoiling it or would it be ok to just put the rings in.
Hone, non CBX

hi broooooooooooooook
you could take a stick or pice of metal (aluminum is easy to cut), cut a slot in it and then insert some emery cloth and whirl it around as you zip up and down a little. 45 degree cuts would be good; in practice just a little roughing is what you need to break the glaze or polish from the old rings and let the new ones in. only a little is needed, just to "scratch" the surface. I'd definitely break the polished surface somehow.
