Lower Bolt for Oil Line to Cylinder Head

Hi,

I have a question around the lower bolt that connects the oil line from the crankcases to the cylinder head.

I sent various bolts to be re-plated, and looks like I have a problem with that bolt.

The bolt should look like:

But when I got it back from the plater it looks like:

Is the bottom part of the bolt an insert that has fallen out?

Can I use the bolt as is, or I do I need the insert / a new bolt?

thanks,

Paul.

Looks like you got back a plain brake line banjo bolt - had you sent some of those as well? I would recommend finding the special bolt - that is a flow restrictor.

Dave,

That's what I initially thought, but I don't think the plater could have swapped the bolt - everything else came back OK (and I am pretty sure I included it for plating), and the brake banjo's are different:

It does look like something could have come away from the bottom of the bolt.

Anyway, looks like I need to track down a replacement - it's coming up as No longer Available from the usual sources.

thanks,

Paul.

If I can't find a part I need through my normal resources, I just Google the part number, found this in the UK.

Yes - google was my first thought! Comes up as "Not available to order" at all the sites I have tried - as is the case for the website you have identified.

Just looked at the bottom of the bolt more carefully, looks like the end piece has just sheared off - it's difficult to tell as it has been plated over!

Well that's a bummer, sorry!

Sorry - I should have seen the difference in the bolts. Yes, something is broken and you're right - that is NLA anywhere. Louis will have them and I'm sure guys have them laying around. The couple of ebay CBX breakers always have bolt assortments for sale and you'll find one there as well.

That insert may be part of a check valve and the plater may have removed it before plating. Did you ask him about it?

Hi,

Checked with the plater, and he will look out for it. However, if the end piece was aluminium it will have dissolved in the acid they use in the process - that would explain it!

I should have known- Bert from the SixCenter has one, so problem solved.

Thanks everyone.

Paul.

That end piece does appear to be an insert pressed into the bolt. If anyone call determine if it is aluminum (not steel), please post. That might well help the next person who sends bolts to be plated.

Thanks,

I got my replacement oil control bolt today - courtesy of Bert at the Six Center.

It is an insert at the bottom of the bolt, and as far as I can tell it's aluminium - well its not magnetic anyway.

So, the use of acid in the plating process would have eaten that away - one for others to watch out for.

Paul.
