Bob,

Forgive me if you already know better than I did on this topic, but a flood of bad memories just washed over me. When you take apart your clutch pack, have a grease pencil handy and note the position of the longer and shorter bolts. And note as well that they must not be over-torqued. Your teeny inch-lb torque wrench is your friend here.

Feel free to ask me how I know this, or ask these guys that helped me with it, or ask Bill Brint who sent me new ones. I can tell you that if you do snap them off, Honda thoughtfully left the screw bosses open at the bottom, so a drill from the underside of the basket will back the now broken bolt out easily. In fact, you may ask me anything about how to break off and extract these bolts and I will probably know the answer, or just watch very carefully as it comes apart and re-read the shop manual and its diagram carefully to see the correct position of the longer bolts, better still.

Your tool is on the way today, BTW.

The pressure plate is marked, however! It has two small cast circles next to the holes where the longer (shouldered) bolts go into. And the holes in the bosses can easily be identified, as they have no thread all the way to the top. There is no specific torque mentioned for these bolts. You will have to use the generic value for the size. I believe it is 6mm.

When I took it apart I noticed that2 bolts were different, I
Thought it was just someone in there before me that screwed
something up - as allways, thanks for the heads up !

Thats what makes this place so great !

Hi,
Can anyone confirm the torque settings for the clutch lifter plate bolts....they are two different sizes so i guess two settings?
Mark.

They are the same diameter bolts. I've never torqued them - just tighten by feel, if you have the knack for it, if not look up, as Mike said, the generic value for that diameter bolt. It's not that critical.

Hello Mark,

6mm bolts are 7.5 to 10 ft Ib. I wind them in so they just pinch then if you torque them you will see that they hardly move, you will get a feel for tightening them up without a torque wrench.
