What brand of spark plugs should I replace with? What stock number for the spark plugs? What works better, paper air filter or oil soaked filter?
Thanks

Duane, The Canadian model came recommended with
Standard ( "ND" X 24ESR-U, "NGK" DR8ES-L)
Cold climate ( below 41deg F) ( "ND" X 22ESR-U, "NGK" DR7ES)
Extended high speed riding. ("ND" X 27ESR-U, "NGK" DR8ES.)
If you transfer these numbers to other manufacturers they should be OK.
Interestingly the "Splitfire" plug is "theoretically" ideal for the twin fire reversing polarity ignition on the CBX but I have never tried them. The only system it ( Splitfire) could "possibly" show any benefit...
As for filters, "efficiency" is two fold, that is to pass air & that to do it's job of removing airborn contaminants. There is always a tradeoff between the two...

Duane, i tried a single K&N paper filter that was properly coated with K&N filter spray on my '79 with stock jetting and a DG 6-1 pipe. It did not run well. A stumble developed at around 4500 rpm.
I went back to the stock, oiled foam filter and the bike ran clean all the way through the revs.

I use K&Ns on both Xs and have no problem whatsoever. I also use NGK plugs intended for 'extended high speed runs' also with no problems.

Thanks, John. I thought it was paper inside the wire mesh.
I did not try any rejetting being the "keep it simple stupid" guy that i am. I was getting a lot of blow-by engine oil in the air chamber and filter box resulting in a messed up stock foam filter. I had the K&N kicking around and figured i would try it out.
Terry, did your '79s have the stock pipes when you used the K&N?

In re: "Terry, did your '79s have the stock pipes when you used the K&N?" Yep, the 79 and 82 both have stock OE pipes.

Interesting to note that for '79-'81 US models the non-resistor version of the plugs you listed above are recommended. Wonder if the Canadian gov't has or had stricter regulations concerning RFI? Guess in '82 the US caught up on RFI legislation or Honda just standardized CBX plug selection.
Not sure Steve, got it out my 1980 Owners Manual, complete with a typo that I edited..
PS. Interesting info on the plug mod.....

Without the resister plugs my radar detector goes off nearly all the time! Have to use them.

That's interesting. What brand/model radar sniffer do you use, Terry?

Valentine 1, an older model but with some upgrades. Resister plugs solved the problem. Never had the problem on the Busa.
