Eng. starts missing at 6500RPM???

Post by noel »

Eng. starts missing at about 6500 rpm when accelerating in any gear. I have pulled the carbs and cleaned them and inst. new plugs . No help! Coils and plug wires are about 3 yrs old. It use to run perfict, but I dont ride it much so I fig. it was Gunked up carbs. Any ideas on this would be appreciated before I start pulling carbs apart again. Thanks

I had a similar problem last year before the C2C rally. Bike would start, idle, and run well to a point. I can't remember the exact RPM, but it just wouldn't rev any higher. The chokes weren't opening completely. I had damaged the choke cable while tilting the engine.

(Bike has stage 3, K&N individual filters, 6-2 Kerker with oversized baffles)

How do you become a moderator on your 1st post and not fill in a location on your profile?

What is the big deal about someone posting their location?

You do not have your location posted.

How does a moderator look when they can't even c omply with a little common courtesy and at least fill in their location? Not very respectable, that is how they look.

Then you can check your charging system.

Respectable? What does it have to do with being respectable?

For whatever reason, some people do not want to give their location. That's their right and option. If it is so important, it would be mandatory before a person is allowed to send a post.

OK, OK, I posted my location, :D Now Im respectable, If you dont believe me, ask my wife :eyecrazy: . Now dos this mean you mite come over some time? You are saying maybe my charging sys. mite be going away at the higher rpm? interesting idea, I will check it out. This would cause a weaker spark. Kinda like running gunked up spark plugs hu! Thanks

I had the same problem a few years ago and I was told it could be the cam chains stretched so I left it alone. :( A couple of years ago I replaced the air filter unit with EMGO ind. filters and the problem went away :D

I had the same problem about 15 years ago on my wire wheeled 79 here
http://www.tgprace.com/ at 11,000rpm. Started running on 5 cylinders. I'm pretty sure it was the #5 cylinder connecting rod breaking and acting like a buzz saw. The transmission and cylinder head were still okay, even though one cylinder had a few bent valves.

So, you say the engine started missing after that, hmmmmm...

The plug couldn't be oil fouled because all the oil went out the bottom of the engine.

The only time i am at 11,000 rpm is when i am pretending to be fast and miss a shift.
George, did you manage to keep the bike upright or was it a painful plug check?
