clutch cover removal

Hi i just brought a 1979 cbx 1000 and would like to replace the clutch as its drags badly when hot . how is the timing unit driven please i dont want to muck up the timing how is it engaged thanks Graham

The 3 pickups come off first to expose the advancer. Then, the bolt in the center comes off then the advancer slides off the shaft (or not, depending if it's rusted in place.

Or, the advancer shaft is held into the primary shaft with an o-ring. It will come off with the cover. (No need to disassemble the advancer from the clutch cover).

If you don't have one, buy a HONDA factory shop manual. Everything is spelled out in there. Read it through, twice, for better comprehension.
