Why You Should Never Lug Your Engine
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soJea7xEt-8
In this informative YouTube video, Jason explains why you should always downshift before accelerating.
Opening it up during low revs will cause the engine to be less efficient, generating more heat.
You can get pre-ignition (glowing carbon deposits peeling off and bouncing around inside your combustion chamber) and then with uneven piston pressure, the pistons may slap against the cylinder wall.
A former CBX racer, Steve Dick, also told me to always keep my revs up (around 3.5-4K or so) even while driving around at low speeds.
He said the combustion chambers will carbon up and your header pipes can even turn blue if you don't.
Yes, I'm preaching to the choir for most of you, but for others, good to know.

There was a Yamaha store here in town several decades ago that had race bikes like the TZ750.
On the tach they had a label that said "Down to go UP".
In other words, downshift to go faster.

Are you sure it wasn't just a reminder that they had been converted to GP shift pattern?
