Spark plugs

Just yesterday, I changed the spark plugs over to the Iridium iX, haven't got part number handy just now, but are meant for the 82.
The old plugs looked quite carboned up.
Bike ran beautifully after I changed them over along with new air filter (was quite dirty) and fresh oil change.

My question on the Iridiums, I've heard that they run somewhat hotter than the standard plugs,

I also have a new set of standard plugs, that I could use.

Any thoughts on the use of Iridiums? Do they actually run hotter than the standard plugs?

I've had iridium spark plugs in my 82 for years. They run exactly the same as conventional plugs but last much much longer.

Thanks Hman. Bike fired right up once I put them in, before I put them in the old plugs took a bit to get it started, they were not in good shape.

Replacing that air filter might have been the big change. Assuming it was 'dry' carbon that you described on the plugs, sounds like something was running a far bit rich. If the plugs still become carbony sooty looking, check your choke.

Yes will check the choke to see where it engages, thanks Larry.
