I'm sorry if this has been discussed before (and it has, I know), but I'm looking for up-to-date information.

I'd like to replace the clutch of my 1979 CBX-Z, with a B or C clutch, to end the rattle.

1 - What parts do I need? I believe I need something more than the basket.

2 - Where can I purchase these parts, and how much will that set me back?

Nix substituting a 81 or 82 clutch.

Go to the sixcenter.nl website and order a new set of clutch rubbers.

Will cost you under a $100 shipped to the US. I've bought half a dozen or these and installed on my 79 CBX's.

It's like night and day after you install them, no more clutch rattle.

Ditto on Six Center's clutch basket fix. Just for clarification, the '79 kit has 6 rivets and rubbers and the '80 kit has 9. You will gain virtually no improvement by just substituting an '80 model basket - some design, just more rivets. Both models' baskets need fixed with the appropriate kit from Six Center. The '81-'82 basket is the good one and remains quiet for a long time, but they are getting pricey and hard to find.

Be very careful and follow instructions closely. Grind the rivet heads off and then remove the burr edge BEFORE driving them through - you will crack the aluminum towers if you don't. You will also have to grind the heads more on the button-head screws supplied (instructions tell you to). I do it before installing them so I don't contaminate the hub with metal. But it's tricky as you have little left to grip with the socket. Just know you have to do this or the button-head screws will hit the oil splash guard and go 'tick,tick,tick'.

I brought one of these kits from the six centre and work very well. As Dave says, follow the instructions, dismantle carefully and assemble. I turned my bolt heads down in a lathe once I had worked out the right height. No Rattles!

So the screws have to be grinded? The instructions show normal bolts, but the ones that come with the kit are rounded, with hex keys.

if you have time take pictures of the process and post them, I'm sure I'll be doing the same procedure in the future as will others.

I should have bought the kit when I was at six center last summer when Bert recommended it to me... would've saved myself the shipping cost .

If you read the instructions, it says to grind off part of the head of the buttonhead screws. Look at the set-up a minute and you'll see why. The rivet heads don't stick out very far and the screw heads they replace will contact the splash guard if not trimmed a bit.

I put them on my CBX. How long will it last until it starts rattling again?

I noticed now the clutch is slipping a bit. Like if I'm pushing a 2nd gear... Could it have anything to do with the change of rubbers? Any ideas? Or it's just that I have to replace the clutch disks?

Check your clutch adjustment by the book. The rubbers will not have anything to do with it.

Just clutch adjustment. She's great now!

Has anyone got a photo or description of where the rubbers go? I have got a '78 Z which rattles away merrily but I can't see any rubbers in the exploded diagram in the parts manual.
