LOL - Might work. I would like to see the surgery myself. I'll post the pics when/if I get them.

So, I called and they have not started working on my bike yet, but said it was next in their order of bikes to be fixed. They have 5 fulltime mechanics and it's a busy time of year for them, so patience is the order of the day. I must not have many other problems in my life because I think/worry about this bike way too often. It might be the number of bikes on the streets here that are constant reminders.

I do have more than 1, but isn't it carrying it a bit too far when you have duplicates - :laughing-rollingyellow:

So that is where both the GBs in America went.

Sure looks great. And what about all the project bikes in the basement and shop?

Guys:

We're getting a little off-topic here. Folks will get bored trying to follow the original thread. Maybe start a new one with pics of all of our bikes?

As soon as I get any news, and or pics, I'll be sure to get us back on topic with the updates. Should be next week, so stay tuned. Did I mention that I removed all the body panels and tank before I dropped it off at the shop? This bike only has 2 small scratches on it from front to rear, and I'm going to do my best to keep it that way. It's a stellar copy in my book.

UPDATE W/PICS:

So, the shop got the head off today and found a smashed and broken lock washer mashed into the head. There is no scoring of the cylinder walls, a small indent on the top of the piston and the dents in the head should be able to be touched up with a dremel. It's my call, but the shop is going to check the valves for straightness and reassemble it. They think it "will probably" be OK.
Any input appreciated. TIA

Wow! you should consider yourself lucky! Hopefully piston is ok.
That washer definitely fell in when you removed the plug.
Since the head is off, and they are planning on taking the valves out, make sure they re-lap them and definitely change seals!
Try to get viton ones!

I guess I'm the luckiest an unlucky guy in this situation could be. As with almost everything - it could have been worse!
I just got the pics on an email last night and haven't discussed with them what should/could be done as long as the head is off. I don't feel I should second guess the shop because their experience is 10X mine in this arena. I will mention your suggestions to them and consider the cost/benefit. I will be glad when this is over. THX.

I'd replace those seals with viton at a minimum. Here's some info on a vendor that is selling these for CBXers:

Here are the prices again for your convenience:

  • Set of 16 (+1): $20.00 + shipping
    Set of 24 (+1): $26.00 + shipping (CBX guys)

$7 U.S. shipping Priority Mail flat rate box 3 days from the time I ship
$11 First class to Canada (this takes well over a week from the time I ship)
$14 First Class to England (probably takes even longer)

Email me for other destinations, custom orders, and/or faster shipping

80 seals for $80 is still available....
Order 100 seals for $100 and get free shipping.
Payment:
  • I prefer PayPal, but if you'd like, US customers can pay by USPS Postal Money Order and I'll ship right away. If you must send a personal check or any other type of money order (other than USPS), I'll take it if my bank will, but you will have to wait an additional week to 10 business days so it can clear before I'll be sending the seals.
Shipping Info and Ordering
  • When ordering, please include your real name, your address, your username here at the forum, and your phone number. Also list exactly what it is you are ordering and how many. Send all that information with the PayPal in the additional information area or with whatever other method you use for payment. I've already had one order that paid with PayPal and somehow PayPal sent no address, so help me avoid that extra nonsense and just send it with the order, please. I definitely need your phone number, especially for International shipments, or I can't ship, for some odd reason.

By the by, the international shipping is regular first class, so it will take some time. If you are truly in a hurry, I can look into express mail, but the rates will definitely be higher.
PMs
  • I will tend to be going off of the PayPal notice, so that is the best place to put all the details.
If you send me a PM about your order, be sure to give me your real name in that PM, so I can more easily connect the dots. If forum member bigdaddyCBX1500 sends me a PM, and I don't remember that he's really Snidely Whiplash in RW, it really bogs down my day going through every email and order to see who it is...
These are being offered on numerous places, so the best and quickest place to get me a message or ask a question is through email or the PayPal order.
