Honda was concerned that the inertia of the stock alternator would put an undue load on the drive/jackshaft during throttle blips. That's why a small slip was designed into the drive. Most other motorcycle alternators are driven by the crankshaft directly.

The Honda engineers felt that the rotating mass (which is huge and heavy) would "flywheel" the motor on decel. So, the designed slippage also occurs when the alternator is asked to make electricity. The load of the magnetic field within the alternator can/will cause the 2 drive plates to slip.
If you're using any kind of synthetic oil, this will exasperate the problem.

The Denso/Kawasaki conversions eliminate all of these issues. They have a positive engagement, cush-drive coupler, small diameter thus less rotating mass and the brushes contact the slip rings closer to the center of the unit and 90 degrees and therefore will last much, much longer. All the while providing clean, uninterrupted power of 35 max amps, at near idle engine speeds and throughout the entire RPM range.
Bikes with these conversions will start faster because the coils are receiving the energy they require and all electronic components will operate as intended.

For any newcomer to the CBX who is eager to find out some of the backgrounds, I strongly recommend to get your hands on one of the first magazine write-ups about the CBX, the "Honda CBX Supersport" aricle in the February 1978 issue of Cycle magazine. It is very detailed and goes far beyond a road-test. It is based on interviews with Soichiro Irimajiri, the Engineering Project Leader, Norimoto Otsuka, Honda's Chief Designer for the styling of of all motorcycles sold in North America and Europe , Tadashi Kume, the Director of Honda R&D, Ken Nagawa, American Honda R&D and Senior Research Engineer (and former racer) Minoru Sato. It provides a first hand account of what was done why and how, design details, objectives, like exhaust sounds and weight reductions and how they were achieved. It turns your knowledge about the CBX several levels up immediately and does away with a lot of personal opinions that have made their way into the CBX story after 40 years. Most of the info in there has made it into Ian Foster's books about the CBX. It shouldn't be that hard to find. A reprint of it is part of Brookland Books Honda CBX 1000 Gold Portfolio, which comes up on ebay ever so often.

Yes, it looks like it's in a showroom.
