Engine Running Very Hot
Had my 82 since new... I notice During it's 1st ride days ago That it was very hot( more than normal). I was running it to change oil. I changed the oil and filter, New fresh gas and away I went. Bike runs normal. Strong through all the gears, from 1000 to 10000 rpm... It has approx... 85,000kms. All stock except kerker 6 into 2.
The outside air temperture quage ( in fairing (stock))stayed around 24c. The senser is place well that it gives you a good indication of outside air. It is very cool up here in northern ontario Canada right now. It was around 11c when i was riding. You almost couldn't touch the carbs. Forget touching the valve covers.
It was fine last year when i put it away.
The kerkers need repacking, but they needed that 10 years ago.
Don't ride it much 1000 kilometers in the last 10+ years.
I ride it once or twice a year to get the oil changed. This year I decided to insure it for the whole season and use it more.
any info (advice ) will be appreciated.
This is a great site btw.. I just joined the Club as well.
p.s. I noticed my serial number is higher than the highest reported in the vital stats... area CC402740
later Ron.

Clutch slipping, generating heat? Oil cooler plugged? Valves adjusted properly to let cool air in , exhaust out? Partially plugged jetting causing a lean condition?
Does it start normally after it 'heats' up? When idling while hot does the engine slow down, stalling? Or speed up, indicating a possible air intake leak, leaning out mixture?
Just some things to look for.

Temperature?
A place caller Harbor Freight sells an infrared temperature sensor for ten bucks. With it you can see what the real temperature of various engine parts measure. Pull the oil filler and shine the light into the oil to measure its temp. Check the variation of exhaust pipes to look for a cool one.
Many years back I rode in a parade at a rally. The engine was detonating toward the end. After letting it cool down, it was back to normal.

Freeways are boring. Back roads have character.

already had some mild blueing from 40 thou kms ago.....any way I decided to start with new plugs. The old ones were fine. I then checked the filter...
took out this ( fiberglass from garage wall + wrappers for chocolate Bars)
and this was left as well ( bottom of filter bucket )
looks like something moved in and left, leaving all the furnishings
seems to run 99,9% better now.
thanks for all the replys
p.s. it still runs hot but I can hold the carbs now while it's running and there just warm, and thats after tortureing the bike for an hour.
I never paid much attention to the heat before, just notice that last ride. I guess it wasn't getting proper air mixture creating a rich mixture & running really hot. The weather was 12 to 14 degress hotter now than it was on the original ride (11 or so cel...). The on board temperature guage stayed around 22-23 same as before but actual temp.... this time
