´79 steering stem with prolink front end

Post by piit »

Hi, I am updating ´79 model by prolink front end. The problem is that I do not have prolink steering stem, lock washer and stem nut. So my question is that can I use early model steering stem with prolink triples? In my opinion I can use it and then I can use early model upper bearing as well.
I have went thru the other discussion on this case, but still unclear to me.

How did you end up with Prolink triple tree brackets without the stem :?:
I have never done it, but I think it is possible to press the early stem in the Prolink lower bracket and use it. 8)

I have collected prolink front end parts from different sources and once I got triples and forks with good money without steering stem.
I agree that should not be a problem to press out steering stem and press it back to prolink lower triple. Good to hear other opinion too, Thanks!

alimey4u2, jep I know that mail chain. There is discussed ´80 not ´79 front end update. Prolink front end is straight installation on ´80, but not with ´79, the upper steering bearing need to be changed.
