Homemade CBX-Busa exhaust for my '80

I figured if an exhaust system on a Hayabusa could handle 180 horsepower it would work on a CBX. So, I decided to graft one on my 1980. It was not easy to adapt and I do not want to do it again. It is a 6 into 2 with a cross over pipe using stock early Hayabusa mufflers. I had to build 3 into 1 collectors. I have not taken it on the street yet as I am still in the restoration process, but I am confident that it will work well. Take a look. David

The skills of the people on this site continue to amaze me. Well done, David.
Make sure to give us a follow-up when you get it on the road.

Seriously, Steve, I agree. I can unbolt and rebolt stuff all day, but the level of skill to do a project like this is something else entirely.
Nice work David! How does it sound?

I hope there's enough ground clearance there for braking while in a corner - Looks like it's going to be close!

I'm sure you've never done that Mike . . . . but personally when I get caught in a decreasing radius turn that I didn't anticipate, it happens to me more frequently than I'd care to admit, which is why I always allow myself a little 'extra' to cope with it. Worse than having to brake would be to have the exhaust system ground while doing do
I keep breaking my personal promise to never post here again . . . . gotta try to do better!!

I donno, exhaust pipe clearance is the same as its little brother, my 1980 CB750F with factory pipes. When I built the system I wanted the symmetry of two mufflers with primary pipes giving a look that enhances the width of the 6-cylinder engine. Cornering clearance should be fine with the pipes tucked in toward the center of the engine and the ground clearance should be enough. Plus, my DG 6-1 has been on the bike since new and the megaphone was rusted out. Someday,I will find a suitable muffler for it and will graft that on. (I think a Vance and Hines Kawasaki prostock megaphone will work, if I can find one.) BTW: I have less than $100 in the whole system, header paint and all. --David Hidaka--
