I just took off the stock exhaust system on my 79 cbx. On the number 2,3,4,5 exhausts, there is a spit collar that goes between the finned aluminum collar and the header pipe. The mystery is that the split collar is not two equal halves, one piece is 180 degrees, and the other is about 90 degrees. Is this the way its supposed to be ? I looked at a 1980 microfiche and it shows all 180 degree collars

Just speculation on my part, but it sounds like someone misplaced or lost some collars, so they made more by cutting a few in half.
thanks

Thanks for confirming a problem. It seems to me that the collar is part of the path for heat to be transferred away from the exhaust valve, so having the full collar is a good idea. Aware of any aftermarket supplier of these split collars ?

http://www.davidsilverspares.com has them.
Select Genuine Spares, then CBX1000Z, then exhaust split collet.
About $3.70 each at the current exhange rate.
Wonder if some other DOHC Honda used the same collet?

It is always good to be suspicious, but in this case it is a dedicated CBX part 18233-422-000. Honda still has them.
