Unknown 6-1 header- which brand ?

Post by wessi »

Hi all, i purchased attached header for a very low price, but with 2 dents and surface rust. I will restore it and give it to a chrome shop, after.
I like very much the the design of the tubes, simple and straight, in my pov much more beutiful than the Laser header, i own as well.
Meanwhile i saw hundreds of 6-1 CBX exhaust pictures, but never a header like this one.
Does anybody have seen this kind before and knows the brand name?
Just for interest...
Regards from Germany, Guido

Not at all positive but i think it is a D&D header. Made in Texas, out of production decades ago.
Site member jt had one. Maybe contact him for a confirmation.

Those in your pics are definitely not a D&D Exhaust. Head pipes are too large diameter and head pipes to collector are wrong. D&D head pipes are stacked at the collector and a short tailpiece. Just to add I like the Lazer 6 into 2 into 1, like that it tucks up well for cornering clearence, my only complaint as with the D&D exh is they are both really heavy. Laser which I also have also has small diameter head pipes.I believe Bert @ Six Center had some Lazer head pipes ( I think) copied but in Stainless steel, must have been way lighter.

Having known Dave Rash (founder D&D) for many years and installed many of his systems
I can promise you it is not a D&D. Many things wrong with this flat collector system (brand?)
and it will slow the bike down an be very difficult to tune for. A flat collector is the least
efficient design especially a 6-1. Looks cool and tucks away nicely though.

Great info, guys. Thank you very much.
The Predator company could have realized it´s difficult to chrome a complete welded header like mine, and made the 6 downpipes detatchable, as shown in the pictures.
Good info also about disadvantage of flat collector and large diameter of pipes, but yes, the bike will look damnd good with those header in re-chromed.
So i will install the complete Laser exhaust, first and drive it. Also will make a sound file. Then switch the header to the Predator by keeping Laser muffler.
After, i will decide about re-chroming or not. I payed just 30 Euro/35 Bucks for the Predator header, so not a big loss
Very courious about the outcome...
Keep you updated, but it will take some time. Deep Winter, here, wet and salty roads, minus degrees (Celsius)

If possible, include a stock system in your comparison test, not for sound but power,
in particular mid range response.
