Right side switch assembly

Mine, after only thirty years of use...has developed a crack so it won't tighten up the whole way. So, it rotates within its 'stops' and doesn't seem to be a problem but, if I wanted a quick fix, could I just remove it and use some type of adhesive on the halves and then screw them together? Whaddyathink

You might try some thin double-sided tape that will grip both the handlebar and the switch assembly to prevent rotation. I bought some from McMaster-Carr online to stick some car interior pieces together and I believe they have a variety of different thicknesses. Good stuff that really sticks to anything it contacts. I think I still have some left and if you want a piece I can mail it to you. Let me know.

Two-sided tape? Excellent idea.
Those rotten securing pins inside the throttle housing are made of paper mache, i think. I had cobbled together some velcro, tape and tiny metal bracket.

A good two part epoxy would probably mend the crack - If done from the inside, it would be invisible
I recommend Matine-Tex for such things . . . . I've used it for about 20 years and it's just amazing the things it will fix - It can permanently glue a Coke bottle to a rubber tire

Hi Tom, regular switch from my 79. Has just enough of a crack in one of the halves that prohibits the tightening screw from 'going all the way'.

I'd be happy to buy your spare from you if you care to sell it Karl - It looks liots better than the one curently on my '79 . . . . and I'm sure the start button will work better than mine does too

Careful, Don. I thought Dave had put low bars on your bike.
If so, the throttle cables will not fit this switch and if you get ones that do, they may hit the tank.

You're right Mike - Mine is a SportKit unit . . . . one of the several pieces of my original bike we were able to reuse
I just need to get off my lazy butt and get in there and rebuild the switch

Well thanks Eric, got the tape today. I'll send it back.
Took the screws out and learned that both halves are cracked, and the top one is the worst. It houses the threaded screw 'holes' and they're (all) cracked. One of them, housing the longest screw cracked completely apart when I separated the switch halves. No way to repair it I believe so I guess I'm in the market for another switch. When I get one is it as hard as it looks to swap it out, what with that throttle cable wheel sandwiched between both halves and all? Thanks again guys! I can paypal some $$ or whatever. Let me know.
