charging system coupling plates

Post by DevonCbx »

I asked earlier what to lubricate the coupling plates with. In the shop manual it says to use molybdenum disulfied grease on the sliding surfaces of the plates. What is this stuff and where can I buy it. Is there anything else I can use? If I lubricate the plates, should I grease them sparingly or put alot on? The plates work just fine right now without grease.

Thanks

Almost all auto parts stores carry MoS2, because it is a common assembly lubricant. Mostly in a tube in paste form. Smooth Kote is one of the trade names.

I wouldn't run out and buy a can of special grease just for this purpose - Wipe them lightly with any grease you have laying around and put it together. The grease is just something to make them slide until the oil shows up and washes it all away. 15 seconds after you start it, the clutches will be oil lubricated
