I am chasing bad problems of my own making, specifically an apparent short in my wiring harness, or burnt components in my charging system, or both.
How would one test the R/R for this?

Page 16-9 of the factory shop manual gives two ways to test the regulator, complete with schematics and drawings. You got one of those don't you Nils??? ;)
The recitifier test is on the next page - Basically you measure the front to back resistance of each rectifier diode . . . . 5 to 40 ohms forward and at least 2000 ohms in reverse

Good Day All
I am also having rectifier problems. The OEM rectifier measured (green lead to any yellow) 1.8Mohms on all three yellow wires. The other direction was open loop. So I replaced the rectifier with one of TIMs aftermarket units --$125 plus shipping. All was then great at 5000rpm with the high beam the voltage across the battery was 14.5. So I decided to go for my first ride of the season. After about 1 mile the bikes voltmeter went to 12 volts. I went home and checked the voltage at the battery at 5000 rpm and it was about 12.2. I checked the new rectifier and it was just like the OEM rectifier (1.6Mohms across all thee yellow wires). The spec for this is 5 to 40 ohms. Can anyone tell me why my bike is burning up rectifiers?

14.5 volts is too high. Should be about 13.8; certainly less than 14. Maybe the root of the problem is the regulator.

Guys - This is where you need to go to test and figure out what is what. Mike Nixon is the go-to guy for a whole lot of Honda stuff.
He has a detailed description of how to test what in which order to determine the bad parts.
