Accelerator pump rod movement

With the carbs off the 1979 CBX1000 again, I'm looking why it doesn't run well.
Should the accelerator pump squirt fuel into the carbs when the throttle is fully opened? Mine doesn't.
How far should the accelerator pump rod move when the throttle is fully opened?
Mine only appears to move maybe 3 or 4 mm, is that enough?
The clearance adjustment appears correct at a few hundreds of a mm.

You are getting lots of stroke. It is only designed to operate on the first quarter-turn of the throttle.

I don't know how I missed this first time round on the carb rebuild.
The adjustment appears to be in spec.
The diaphragm didn't appear to have any holes in it, but I'm not sure how "stiff" the membrane should be.
It doesn't appear to be too flexible.
Maybe I'll replace it just to be sure.

Original ones are stiff after 35 years. Replacement advised.

I had similar problem and the hole for the fuel to squirt through was totally plugged - no way could I clean it.
