Carb "what is it and how does it install" questions

Post by jaguar »

So I am getting the carbs on my 82 ready to install and have a question
Image

What is the correct orientation of the parts for this "rod"
Actually while I am at it, what does that thing do?

Any help or pictures would be great
Thanks

That would be the accelerator pump rod.
There is some great info from the CBX carb guru Mike Nixon in this thread

Accelerator pump rod on my CB900F carbs. Different carbs, but the same.

Not sure what your situation was with the carbs - did you rebuild them? If you did and don't know what that rod assembly does (others correctly pointed out that it's the accelerator pump rod), chances are that your accelerator pump does not work. It's one of the most important things to get right if the carbs are to function as intended. I'd personally get some more info on exactly what you need to be doing more than you have, or you WILL be removing them again (maybe more than once). A cursory breeze-through is almost always not nearly enough with these carbs.

Mostly was a brain fart on my part. Just wanted to make sure.

The carbs were totally taken down, soda blasted, cleaned up and new Randakk kits going in.
They have been apart for a while and I didnt have the bowl on to realize that it was the pump arm.

Last thing I need to do before getting the carbs buttoned up is to make sure that the accelerator pump passages are clear

I was able to get the needles and needle jets.
Still need to order all new OEM sized brass too.
