I am going to be ordering two sets of carb syncs/adapters. Been looking at the Motion Pro mercuryless tubes. Anyone have any dealings with such? While in Edmonton plan on going to a few shops and ask what they use. Other choice would be Morgan Carbtune. Motion Pro looks like a good choice as readily available here in Canada and been reading decent write ups.

I purchased a Morgantune last year and it works great. It takes about 3 weeks to get it so if you are in a hurry that is not a option. But as far as useing it I like it because you don't have all that bounce in the gauges. Thats my 2 cents.

Ended up getting (2) two sets of the Motion Pro carb sync gauges along with an auxiliary fuel tank and (2) two sets of adaptors. Took (3) three days to arrive thru a bike dealer in St Albert. Hoping to use them on a '79 CBX a friend has however bike has been sitting, with fuel in tank and carbs, for over (10) ten years! Inside of the tank is horrible and the smell!! Oh well I wanted a project to keep me occupied while doing treatments here... guess I have it. LOL

Drain those carbs and the tank, and consider a treatment of Marine Clean on the tank before you even crank that motor.

I just asked the magic 8 ball if you were going to have to clean those carbs...

Bad news. It says "Signs point to yes".

'Marine Clean'... never heard of it so guess 'google' will be in use again. Product I've used in the past to clean tanks involved an 'acid' wash then a protective coating poured and MANY hours turning the tank to get all the nooks and crannies (especially) rear lower corners covered. Turning the tank also reduces any runs.
Carbs will need to be pulled and thoroughly cleaned, being a '79 the rubber plugs may be an issue. Removed the valve cover, crank end caps and rotated engine to check valve movement first... al 24 did their duty. By hand turning and plugging spark plug holes with a finger there didn't seem to be any compression on #1 and 5. May try to use penetrating oil to free up the rings before firing up. If no compression then guess a top end job is in the future.
All brakes seized so that'll be another system to go thru. Fork seals would be a given. But first priority is having the engine make its music.
Thanks for the Marine Clean pointer, will check it out. And after 10yrs there's no key... go figure. Need to find out how to bypass the switch to power systems up. Fun times for me and my chemo bottle. On that note all other tests/biopsies came back clean was told yesterday. Breathing a bit easier now with that news. Doctors thought the radiation/chemo would cause the MS to flare up... nadda yet. So feeling better. Only 1 week into 5 weeks of treatment and no overwhelming side effects yet. Just tired at times.

Your health certainly comes first and good luck with all that.

Google POR-15. That's the company that sells Marine Clean and a ton of other good restoration products. Get a gallon of it - you will find many uses for it!

For the carbs, at a minimum, you will need bowl gaskets, rubber plugs, both accelerator and air cut diaphragms. The carbs should also be completely separated to properly clean and new o-rings installed. If you don't, expect a few joints to leak from sitting that long dry. Maybe you are aware of all this, but if it is your first foray into CBX carbs, expect to work on them 2 or 3 times until all's right.

Keep us posted on your progress!

I've been into CBX carbs a few times, having (11) eleven of them in my time. Few years ago bought a couple of Randakk's CBX carb kits and appears as if this particular bike may get at least one of them. But still opening a set of CBX carbs a daunting task. Just cann't imagine how bad the internals are going to be with fuel 'brewing' that long in there and temp extremes we experience here.
Googled the product 'Marine Clean' and they do make a motorcycle kit so will talk to the bikes owner about ordering one. The owner is out of town for next week so don't want to buy parts and have him decide not to continue with the bike. Going to check valve clearances and engine compression to give him a better idea as to what to expect. All brakes are seized, #1 doesn't seem to have compression when rotated by hand, some plastic's missing, cables seized, fork seals, drive chain tight and I'm sure the clutch/wheel bearings/swing arm will need some help. Then theres the rubber items such as valve stem seals, carb insulators, valve cover seals (6 of the 8 'crumbled' when I removed the cover), seals in general.
