RUBBER CARB PLUGS

Post by twinegar »

Do the rubber plugs in the float chamber serve a real purpose? I am re-building the carbs off my 80 and they are missing as well as the tiny o-ring that goes between the accelerator pump and carb. They bike ran good once it was warmed up. I am installing new plugs and just wondered how important they are.

The rubber plugs only go in the '79 carbs - VB60. Yours never had them. You DO need the o-ring for the accelerator pump or you'll puke fuel all over the place.

Just re-read your post. DO NOT install rubber plugs in your VB62 carbs. It will be the equilavent of plugging all your #35 idle jets. You really do need a shop manual and a parts manual.

I have the Honda shop manual and parts manual put together from the microfiche. The shop manual 80 addendum shows and says nothing about the plugs. Are the plugs #3 on the 79 microfiche referred to as gasket. The 80 addendum doesn't show how to re-build those carbs so I would have referred to the 79 instructions and wound up installing the rubber plugs.
Thanks.

If you use the shop manual as a guide to rebuild the carbs, the Prolink (81-82) version would probably the better one to use for a 1980. The VB64 carbs are closer to the 1980's VB62s than the 79s VB60s.

I am not sure what your microfiche shows, but on mine, the No3 is a "packing set" which are all O-rings and gaskets and the plug was probably part of that.
