choke relief springs

Post by DevonCbx »

I noticed when I replaced the choke relief springs, one bank closes completley and the other bank of choke butterflies do not close all the way. Do the butterflies have to close all the way? One side of carbs only closes with about a 1/8th inch gap. Also can the spring tention get weak? Could it also be possibly that something is snagging such as the butterflies.?

You have some binding somewhere on that bank of chokes. If your springs are connected properly, all 6 plates should close completely. If you loosen the plate screws on each plate in succession and check each time for free closure, you'll find the culprit. Just fiddle with that plate and tighten it where it doesn't bind. I've had to file the little offset some on each side of the plate at the pivot point on some as that's where they were dragging. You'll just have to play with them.

Devon, Take Daves excellent advice....be meticulous, the butterflies should be "snappy" & 100% repeatable. Patience & care spent here will pay dividends in the future..... Good luck
