My 1st 6 pack
I finally got my X on the lift today.
I have been a paid M/C mechanic for quite a few years now and I have worked on alot of different bikes but one that never came across my lift was the CBX.
I worked on a school bike (81 CBX) at MMI when I was there but we did not cover carb R&R on the CBX because it is not a new enough bike. So today was my 1st CBX 6 pack and what a smelly stinky job it was too.
Anyways cleaning 6 carbs is really no different than cleaning the 4 I would normally be cleaning on one of my CB-Fs.
I actually like to clean carbs for some unknown reason and I had fun cleaning these.
What I like is the finished product that will work correctly and look good doing it.
I scored this 6 into 1 from ebay for a BIN of $175.00 + shipping = $225.00 and I am going to put a NOS Super Trapp silencer on in place of the dinged up Kerker silencer that is in the picture.

So it turned out the motor on my X was bad and I had to buy another one.
The price was right and the motor is perfect with only 5000 miles on it.
I have never seen a 26 year old motor that looked as good as this one does on the inside.
Tomorrow I will mount the motor and try to finish this thing off so I can ride it instead of look at it.
Look at this 26 year old oil

I have never heard a motor on a motorcycle that sounded as good or mean as my CBX with a Kerker 6 into 1.
There is no sound like it.
I built a CB1123 Super F that put 140 HP to the wheel that did not sound as good as my stock CBX sounded today when I fired her up for the 1st time.
She is an absolute amazing machine and I can hardly wait to ride her, but she is only halfway done now. She needs to have 39mm TRAC CB1100F forks and wheels to go with the JMC swing arm set to go on tomorrow and Works Performance shocks that came with the bike when I bought her.

Yes it will be there at Morro and I just packed the silencer, so she is pretty quiet for a 6 into 1.Terry wrote:Looking good! Will it be ready to ride to Morro? Should I put on my 6 into 1 to compare tone and decibels? :)
But she does sound like a P-51  and I can hardly wait to ride her.

All she needs now is the chain & sprockets.
She is now eqipped with
a 5000 mile motor,
CB1100F TRAC forks with new Progressive springs,
dual piston caliper brakes {front & rear} and wheels,
a JMC swing arm,
a Kerker 6 into 1,
CB900F triple clamps,
94 CBR front mastercylinder
79 CB750F speedo cluster,
CB350 handle bar
and Works Performance shocks.
Not bad if I do say so myself.

I have a Tsubaki 530 o-ring chain and the rear sprocket, but I need that 18 tooth for the front and the shipping deptartment at Tucker Rockey must be smoking crack, because they have gotten it wrong trhree times already.Terry wrote:18/42 and a 530 chain or are you staying with a 630 chain?
A 630 chain?
I don't think so.

I finally came to the realization that those
carbs were the reason my X was not running right,
so they are off the bike and I have a bank from an 81-82 on there now and what a noise it is that comes from that 6 into 1 kerker that I have on there now.
This is the bank that I have on there now but they look alot better now that I have had a chance to play with them.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 4574755220
They have a bad dispensor valve on top so I had to run the fuel direct until I can replace the diaphragm.
But she does run and I think she runs good but in the half an hour I had her out for a get to know you ride, the cam chains loosened up on me and I will have to tilt the motor again and pull the valve cover to make sure everything is as tight as it should be.
I really lost my cool a couple of times today when things got a little screwed up on me, but I am happy now that I have ridden my CBX.

Carb Question
Hi fasterspider, how did you sync the carbs? I am a new owner and expect that I will have to do the same cleaning to mine as you did to yours. With my GS1100EX I always sync the carbs after a cleaning. How do I sync a 6 cylinder engine with a 4 tube carb stix?
1982 Honda CBX - Mobile and loving it
1981 GS1100EX - Undergoing rebuild
1981 GS1100EX - Rolling rebuild
Why two GS11s? A man doesn't feel like a man unless he has a big pair.

Hook up your sticks to #s 3-4-5-6 with #4 being the base.
Sync #5 then 6. Change your sticks to 1-2-3-4 then sync 3-2-1.
The reason this is done is because when you turn the sync screws on any one carb it also moves the next one to it a little bit. There is a good article explaining it a bit better than I can somewhere in the club files.

Re: Carb Question
Syncing the cartbs on my X was a nitemare, I hated every step of the way and finally had to let my boss finish it up because of time restrictions.retrex wrote:Hi fasterspider, how did you sync the carbs? I had to clear the lift for a customers bike.
I am now saving my money to delete these stupid ass CV carbs to put a turbo on my bike, screw CV carbs.
I also have a 6 way merc stick to sync my 6 pack.
