My '81 w/12,000 miles on it was running poorly due to infrequent use gunking up the carbs. Even when new it ran so lean it had no oomph below 4000 rpm.
Finally bit the bullet and had the carbs redone/cleaned/professionally adjusted etc.
Wow! Now it pulls hard from idle and has no trace of hesitation. (I have a feeling my gas mileage will be decreased, though...)
The shop that did it had experience w/CBXes, and charged much less than the Honda dlr quoted.
