I have a 79 CBX 3,400 original miles. It hasn't run since 1996. I bought the carb rebuild kits.I have cleaned the carbs and replaced the jets. The bike will run for 30-60 seconds with some throttle responce. What due I need to do ?. Is there anyone who can help ? I live in Northern Virginia. Does anyone know of someone in my area that could help ?

hi barry
if you do not get a reply to this e me direct and i will help you
one thing you might consider is joining icoa if you havent and attending rallies. there are plenty of members that are tech xperts and they can help you face to face
this assumes what you have is a carb issue which i am not toooo sure.
try this next time you go out for a ride...........take the gas cap off and go for a short spin and see if it stops in the 30-60 second time you stated.
if it doesnt stop ...ie...keeps running ...e me at team222@paonline.com

Thanks guys for responding. I don't have the gas tank mounted. I have a hose and small funnel connected to the #1 carb and I am pouring gas directly into the carbs. I am in the process of cleaning the tank and installing a pingel valve. Do you think I am not getting a constant steady feed of fuel and that could be the problem. Do I need to try this with the tank on ? I figure it should still run longer and trottle response be better
Thanks
Barry
Thanks
Barry

How full are you filling the carbs? Do you fill them until they overflow? On a '79, it takes a while to get gas to the far end. When it runs, are all the pipes getting hot? Wet your fingers and LIGHTLY TOUCH each pipe. Or spray a little water on the pipes, to insure they are all hot. Did you check the "squirters" to make sure they are all squirting prior to carb installation?
If you can narrow it down to certain cylinders there are other tips/tricks we can suggest. When you cleaned the carbs, you shot carb cleaner through all the idle passages and jet passages?
Let us know what you find.
Regards, Tom
