acell pump not working...

Post by 426 Hemi »

I pull the carbs today for a much needed rebuild ..One problem i found is the acell pump is dead ..Added a new pump and still no fuel ...Looking at the lower pump housing there is a square brass plug in the bottom of a round hole in the housing ..I'm thinking that like most holley carbs i work on that there should be a spring and check valve below that brass plug?? Also in the bowl there is a square plug drivin into a round hole just like the lower pump housing , is there a spring and check valve there also? I have installed the pump and added fuel to the bowl and with my hand pumped the pump ,no fuel coming out..or fuel going into the pump ..There has to be some kind of check valve there somewhere..

Other problem i found is the choke is working ok on one bank of the carbs while the other doen't fully close when choked ... With the choke is full on the one bank is very easy to push open with my finger ,, the other has much harder to push open ..the springs are in place and seems not to have any missing parts .. Does the one spring need to be wound a little tighter to match the other spring? Thanks for any info ...Lee..
If it doesn't have a big motor i'll walk..

No check valve, it works like a plunger, creates its own pressure with a diaphragm. The pump could be working but the passages may be plugged, check the fuel rail and nozzles by running some Barrymans aerosol carb cleaner through the pump orifice on the carb body.

the choke can be tricky, make sure the carbs and linkage are clean, if the one side is still sticking and you see no apparent problems it could be due to that side of the carbs is out of alignment in the rack and need to be on the same center line to work freely.
