I believe that all of the throttle plates should be open the same, in order for the carburetors to be synchronized. If you perform the carburetor synchronization, that is what you will end up with. If you still want to try to do it on the bench, I would do it this way: First, have a bright light behind the carburetors, so you can see the light coming through the throats of the carburetors, and turn the idle speed screw till you can see just the slightest sliver of light coming through the number four carb. Now, adjust the synchronization screws for the other five carbs until you see the same sliver of light coming through them. Do them in the same order you would synchronize on the engine. Four is your reference. Then, adjust 5, 6, 3, 2, 1. Now, when you open the throttle, all plates should show the same sliver of light no matter how far open they are. If you turn the idle speed to completely close number four, all the rest should close at the same time. Now you can install them and start the engine. Remember to turn that idle speed screw to open the throttles just a little, or the engine may not even run. Once it is running, you should still do a synchronization with the engine running. No matter how careful you are adjusting them on the bench, it will not be as good as with gauges.

Not to be contentious, since I'm trying my best to help you out here, but I think I clearly answered your question at least twice, and offered some other things to check which you did not comment on. I've done close to 75 CBX carb rebuilds in the last 5 years alone, many more in years prior, and I can tell you that unless the bike is running close to perfectly, you do not know that the carbs are 100% clean. They may or may not be clean, but you will not know that for sure until the bike is running right.

You seem to be on the right track with the bench synching, but I do not know how much clearer I can make the procedure. Just do the best you can do and try them again.
