Air Cut Off Valve

Post by EMS »

I have cleaned and "rebuild" several CBX carbs, but I do not consider myself a carb guru. I have used Mike Nixon's booklet as a work instruction. Now, here is an interesting ebay auction:

The guy calls himself the "only expert" in that field:
I'm the only person I know who's rebuilt/restored enough CBX carburetors to qualify as an expert.
and then he makes this statement:
The price listed is for all cosmetic work and basic rubber--gaskets, orings, etc. It does NOT include air cutoff or accelerator pump diaphragms. If we determine that those parts are necessary I'll adjust the final price accordingly. Cutoffs are 55 dollars for a set of 6

Can someone please explain to me, what he is talking about? :? Where are these 6 air cutoffs that he is charging $55.- for?

I figured it out...you have to send him six sets of carbs to get the special rate.

"I use a powerful vacuum manifold that I designed to synchronize them on the bench so there's no guesswork there either. Just bolt them on and go. "

Really? Might work for that mythical engine that has all six cylinders pumping exactly the same. I would prefer to synch mine on the engine.

For that price, you can barely get the factory float valves, so you can be sure he is not using them. I don't know who he is, he might do great work, but I already have a question on what kind of parts are being used, and I *know* how much time I spend on a set, pretty close to 40 hours. I can't do it for that.
