In the process of getting the '82's engine freshened up. So have the carbs off and noticed couple of things. First is one of the pilot screw's have the adjusting slot/head broken off so I'll be replacing/repairing it. However from Honda its no longer a taper but flat, some sort of update. Will it affect the bike if I just change that one or does all 6 need to be the same? Thinking of threading a small machine screw into the old pilot jet if need be.
Secondly the bike has had the high idle symptoms for awhile. 2000 plus rpms until I load engine up with clutch or shut it off. Sync'ed carbs, checked passages, new intake boots... still high idle when warm. I have Randak's carb overhaul kit so was contemplating stripping carbs down... until noticed something I thought was odd. With carbs on the bench when I physically push on #1 or #2 butterflies to open, there is a hesitation with #3. Same holds true with #4, hesitation when I push on 5 or 6 butterflies. So wondering when machine is at idle some butterfies are pulled open by vaccum until slack in linkage is taken up. That make sense?
Couple carb questions

Re: Couple carb questions
I hadn't heard about the new idle mixture screws. The last set of factory carb parts that I had was purchased last year and used the old tapered style screw.bobber wrote:In the process of getting the '82's engine freshened up. The butterflies should all be firmly attached to the throttle shafts. Should move in unison. Were they ever removed and reinstalled with screws? Maybe something is loose? The problem you are describing would certainly give you both idle and throttle control problems.

I looked for packaging from the ones that I had but could not find anything. The parts I had were used in a rebuild.bobber wrote:Chris would you have a part number still for the pilot adjusting screws? VERY difficult to tell in the fiche and want to be sure I get right one.
I believe that the part number for the pilot adjusting screw for an '82 would be 16016-469-004, labeled "Screw Set A". This would include the adjusting screw, washer, spring and "O" ring.

idle mixture screw
I am pretty sure you can get the exact same screw that comes in a 1979 model CBX carb by taking one from a Kawasaki multicylinder bike Keihin carb, any made in the past 15 years or so. The neat part is Kawasaki sells them as separate parts.
