'79 Petcock Repair

Post by Carl »

I noticed that the lower rivet that holds the face plate on has come out of the hole on the face plate. Right now the plate is being held on by the other rivet only. What should I do? I remember reading a post somewhere about drilling out the rivets and tapping the petcock body for threaded screws. Anyone familiar with this or any other fix for my problem?
Thanks everyone.

I've heard a little on the advantages of the Pingel - Tell me more!

Does it have to be "adapted" to the CBX tank? If so, does it come with the proper adapter? Does it incorporate the filter screen, and do you still have a "reserve?" Is the reserve about the same size as the stock petcock?

Where's the best (cheapest) place to get one of these - I've heard they're a hundred bucks or more

You can buy them direct fron pingel....tell them what you`re doing and they will help you. The pingel is so much better its not even a good comparison. I used them for years drag racing and have one on my cbx now...I would never go back to a stocker. They also are polished and look a lot nicer.

A Google search for "pingel petcock" gets you lots of Harley sites, (I'm gathering these screw right onto a Harley tank with no adapters needed??) and www.pingel.com gets you a site selling e-mail addresses.

Where specifically (other than Tim's) did you guys get yours, (for under $100) and how do you get in touch with Pingel directly??

Thanks,

Don

79 petcock

Carl,

Yes the pingel works, I have one on my 82. It works so well that you can use much more of the fuel in your tank before you hit reseve. however the reserve is puny! less than 20 miles at 65 MPH. Always know where your next gas station is if you are on the road. This is on a late model in which case the needed adapter to go from the Honda 20mm thread to the pingel sae thread drops the whole unit about 1/2 inch effectively lowering the straws in the tank. The 79s may be different :?:

To fix your honda valve, remove it, drill out the remaining rivet, drill and tap the body for 6mm thread to mach a set of 6mm allen head screws to replace the rivets. Simple, fast, cheap at the hardware store (tap, and two screws). I did this with mine and it was fine until the rubber gasket gave up the ghost.

Jeff at www.pingelonline.com promptly replied to my -mail:

6111-AH (petcock) $64.60
A2003C (adapter) $11.35

Think I'm gonna "invest" in one of these.
