A well tuned CBX motor won’t need more than a minute of choke, if even that long, anything longer suggests clogged or restricted slow jets.

The sooner you address the carbs, the sooner you'll have a properly-running CBX. I know you said you were a Honda mechanic back in the day. So I presume that you can successfully get the carbs off and back on. However, I dare say that back in the day, you did not have the opportunity to totally rebuild any CBX carbs. I'm sure you can do it, but just be aware that there are many unique pitfalls to these carbs that can be quite perplexing. I have rebuilt several sets of CBX carbs that former Honda mechanics had rebuilt. There are things that will fool anyone not intimately familiar with these particular carbs. Give me a shout when the time comes and I'll give you a few tips.
