Stripped spark plug hole repair

Post by sed213rr@gmail.com »

I've had my 1979 since new. I have over 100,000 miles on it. While removing plugs an outside plug stripped upon removal.

I've tilted the engine. What is the best way to renew / repair the threads w/o removing the head ?

Thanks for any help,

Pete

I assume you know how to work with Timeserts or Helicoil.
Take a thin material shop rag and smother it with grease. After you move the piston to TDC, stuff the rag into the plug hole. Keep a vacuum handy - your wife's small handheld rechargeable cordless works well - Do your thread repair - maybe in steps and suck out shavings between steps. When you are done, remove the rag with pliers. Apply the vacuum again. I have also coated the drill and thread cutter with grease, especially in the grooves, so the shavings stick to the tool.

Just to 'second' that: The method that EMS described has worked well here, too.
