Yup, I have to stay busy so my mind isn't dwelling on life so I have a set of VB60 carbs that are in need of some TLC.

I have a set that started out looking almost exactly like that. I bought them to practice on before I took mine apart. I didn't have any ultrasonic cleaner or anything special. I spent a whole winter working on them, and they worked fine. It was a good learning experience. I still have them sitting on the shelf.

I made a long enough container to soak a whole bank of carbs in Chemtool B-12 without taking it apart. That gives a good start.

Mmmm... Ethanol fuel and not shutting of petcock or winterizing, always nice.

Great thing about canadian bikes, I have never had to see that. Worst is just the coffee sludge and jets/tubes full of sludge. No biggies.

This is not the result of parking the bike for winter. This is a carb that sat a long time. I had bikes that were parked long before we had ethanol and the fuel had turned to a hard resin-like varnish in the tank, that came out in chunks.

I wouldn't worry about trying to soak the whole bank - these things need separated! I think they will come out OK, Mike, if you are patient enough. You might try soda blasting the bodies - gives a pretty nice finish.

Well guys, the carbs have been taken apart and a solution of Krud Cutter and distilled water in an ultra sonic cleaner was used with good results on carbs 1-4. 5&6....those were so corroded that the slides were stuck and the butterflies wouldn't budge.

I figured they were beyond use so I experimented with a solution of toilet bowl cleaner and sterile water in the ultrasonic cleaner.

When I dropped them in there was an immediate action and after 8 minutes they looked pretty good. I did three more 8 minute sessions, washed them well and blow dried then with compressed air.

I still had to drill out the usual suspect jets and the fuel meter screw, then back into a distilled water ultrasound bath for 16 min but all ports were clear and flowing, even the accelerator nozzles.

The only issue was the zinc coated throttle plate rods were discolored and the carb body was discolored.

I soda blaster the carb body and it looks pretty good now.
