Here are some photos of the basket case '79 I got last summer in a dozen boxes. Coming along slowly, but getting there. Engine is next.

So far it looks fantastic, Dave.
Are those 900F or 1100F shocks?
And the name of your photogenic hound?

Steve:

Thanks! Dog is Joe. 1100F shocks. I've been lucky enough to squirrel away a couple of good sets.

Dave
Bike looks fabulous. What did you use to paint the rear master cylinder? I've used aerosol cans but have to be so careful as the brake fluid takes the paint off.

Ross:

Went to DOT 5 brake fluid (don't tell anyone!) several projects ago. You can paint with anything you want then. I use DupliColor black caliper paint.

Oh man does that look clean, especially the gauges.
I had to look twice, without the rear sprocket, it looks a bit like a shaft drive assembly at the rear wheel :D
Confession: As much as I like looking at 'our favourite bike', when it sits roadside, there's just something about seeing them naked 8)

Thanks, guys. The front and rear brake lines are Speigler - I think the best out there. I've looked at this thing 'naked' for long enough - time for the 'clothes'!

Not that it is a big deal, but we Germans spell the sound that is commonly spelled "ee" or "ea" in English the other way: i before e. like in Spiegler, Wienerschnitzel and Riesling

Actually thought about confirming the spelling, but figured everyone would get the idea.

First, the bike is beautiful.
Second, "i" before "e" except after "c" . The only problem is that with someones name, you can spell it and pronounce it any way you wish.
Best,
Phil

Your axiom is right Phil and in addition we learned 'i' before 'e' except after 'c' and sometimes 'y'. You are also correct that names don't always follow that rule. That said, I should have confirmed the correct spelling and we wouldn't need to have this grammar lesson!

To be fair, I don't hink correct English grammar and its rules have anything to do with this. These are names, German names, and the "ee" or "ea" sound is spelled "ie". The spelling "ei" is pronounced like the English "i" as in icecream or island. Like Weihnachten or Leinenkugel :teasing-poke:

The ie - ei thing is a little pet peeve of mine. The restaurant our local mc club meets every Sunday for breakfast has a board, where they write the daily specials on. Each time they have "Wienerschnitzel"
someone spells it "Weinerschnitzel"
The piece of meat is named after the Austrian capital "Wien" (Vienna) - schnitzel means "cutlet". I don't think anybody would spell the city "Wein", which actuall is the word for "wine" same pronounciation.

Mike,

Is it correct to say that in German, you pronounce the second vowel? Thus "ie" would sound like "e"? There's lots of German heritage around Cincinnati, so we're used to it, but we still hear folks butchering names like "Beiersdorfrer" or "Kleoepfer".

Either garage is too small or we have too many bikes. Or Momma's car needs to go outside.
