Re: Rocketman's CBX
Back from Mexico and had the pulsar cover Colin made waiting on me.
I wasted no time installing it.
Paint should be done this week.

Re: Rocketman's CBX
Well, I am nearly done. I have the speedometer, tachometer and voltmeter to be restored, The carbs need fine tuning as well.
I pulled out the STG III kit and went with 80 primary and 120 secondary mains. Much better but still fat off the bottom. I figure at 5900 feet I can probably lean out the primary to a 70-78 and be where I want to be so I ordered some 78's.

The Black Pearl turned out beautiful, Mike.
I like the stance of the bike. No doubt the smaller front wheel has a lot to do with it but to my eye, the lines flow smoothly from to back.

Re: Rocketman's CBX
Thank you one and all. You guys are an inspiration of what can be done to keep these classics alive.
I am looking forward to my next project, a low serial number CBX frame that I bought with its engine cases.
Wished I had found it before it was parted out but these bikes are becoming worth more in parts than whole.
I will restore this one to original , no modifications.
That means it will be hard to do in regards to parts and pricey.

Re: Rocketman's CBX
it's a 79.
Frame#365
this one will take a total build. All I have is the frame and it's engine cases. No crank, rod, head , tranny.... Nada.

Mike:
I understand the allure of the low serial number resto. I'm sure you're up to it. Been there a couple of times and currently doing one of my own and helping on another. Let me know if you need any help/advice or maybe some parts.
Bet you wish you had had a shot at buying the whole bike before parting out. You'd likely have even given him what he ended up with parting it out. Don't think these guys make what they think they will parting this many out, but they have no choice as they are not able/willing to spend a little to get them running and sell as whole bikes for decent money. My impression is that a lot of very nice CBXs of all years have fallen this way recently, by the looks of the parts they're selling.

Re: Rocketman's CBX
Especially a frame is a very hard sell. So are bare engine cases. Would like to know how many frames Louis has sitting there or threw into the dumpster.

Re: Rocketman's CBX
That's the problem with parting out a CBX - the potentially most valuable stuff is way too expensive to ship whole. And frames without titles are just boat anchors. Bare engine cases about the same. A whole engine is much more valuable IF you don't have to ship it. The only engine part that consistently brings any money is the head if it is complete. The rest usually not much. Late clutches are worth more than the whole rest of the engine. It's still not in my nature to part out any CBX that can be put running again.
