Hello all!
I know it sounds sacrilgeous to many--but I have a 79 CBX and I want to transplant the entire front fork assembly and the rear swingarm assembly from a 2004 Kawasaki ZRX1200 to the old girl. Does anyone know of this being done before? Thanks - Randy

No, but I'm transplanting the master cylinder from a 2003 ZX-12R to the CBX.

Not sacrilegious at all, IMO - Early model CBX's can certainly use a suspension upgrade and there are lots of them running around with updated parts on them - 1100F rear swingarms, brakes and shocks are a popular upgrade as they are just about 'bolt ons' and the same for retrofitting 39mm ProLink front ends with CB900F dual piston brakes - They fit well with minimal modifications to get them installed and all the parts are relatively easy to get and pretty affordable . . . they also make a trememdous improvement in the way the bike rides and handles and they give it the stopping power it should have come with from the factory

Never heard of anyone using your ZRX1200 pieces, but that doesn't mean that it can't be done or that the end result wouldn't be of great benefit - Most anything *can* be done . . . . especially if you own a welder and have access to a good machine shop. Would it be the biggest 'bang for the buck?' - Maybe not but don't let that slow you down, especially if you have deep pockets ;)

Thanks--I don't have deep pockets, but I do have a ZRX that was totaled because a curb went through the engine cases, but all suspension components are perfect. Picked up on e-bay for $700. I also have a mig welder. Most measurements look close, so I'm going for it. Gotta be different!

Jeff Bennetts did it too. He used to offer the swingarm kit with all the work done to slip into the CBX frame.

Looks like he had unlimited use of the machine shop I mentioned . . . . or he spent the bucks and had a professional do everything 'right'

Either way, a really nice looking result - I'll bet it rides every bit as good as it looks too

Thanks, the rear rotor is a stock Honda rotor from a VF1000F.

It does ride better than it looks and my wifes uncle has a machine shop in his barn about 10 minutes from my house. Zrex12 if you have any questions I would be happy to talk about it any time.-Mike
