81 streetfighter conversion

Post by AshishNJ »

I have been posting random updates and pictures all over. Since the build is now catching up , I thought it was time to create a thread.

Bike was an 81 . Motor was good and frame was already cut. The gentleman I bought this project from had done some quality work . Especially the rear suspension. It is from Ducati 916 and has been made to fit CBX frame. By no means I could have done that fab work. Call it it lack of welding setup or simply lack of skills.

Here is how it arrived

First I got the frame modified so I could have a gigger seat and added some personal touches :)

In between, there was tons of work. Rebuild shocks and forks, replaced wheels, brake rebuild, tried a square headlight setup . Fabricated many brackets , tried high bars, clip ons , built fiberglass seat pan etc etc..
I think I like how it turned out. Still miles to go but it is starting to look good.

I decided to change the ugly wheels and brought newer Ducati rear and got them powder coated .

Electronics will be
Motogadget M Unit
Sachse Ignition
Dyna Coils
Koso Thunderbolt LED
Lithium batteries
Daytona Velona gauges
Rebelmoto lighted handlebar switches
Rebelmoto LED blinkers.

More to come :)

Stuck at throttle. Bought this generic motionpro push-pull tube with intention of using 79 sports cables but those cables are tooo long. Getting custom cables is not cheap. Wondering what other cables would fit ?

Can't help you much there. It's why I try to stick to working on stock or near-stock CBXs. Everything on a custom has to be one-off.

Compared to what?

IMO they're great value for money to have something brand new and made to exactly fit your bike.

Need custom cables? Just make your own especially since the ones you bought are too long. There’s loads of easy-to-follow tutorials on the web.

Thought about making them. Turns out 79 sports throttle cable fit ok. Slightly longer but don’t look ugly.
Wiring is taking time . Installed oil temp sensor and handlebar switches ( what a pain to run wires ) .

FWIW I do think that those cables would look a lot better if they were shortened.

That switchgear is interesting - what is it?

Have you considered motogadgets mo.button to simplify and reduce the number of cables?

Biggest challenge was to fit battery, munit, fuse, start solenoid, sachse ignition , seat lock and all other wiring crap under the seat pan. I am satisfied how it turned out
