An 81 to buy or not

Hi, looking at buying an 81, to add a sister to the 82.
This is a Canadian bike.
The owner tells me its hard to shift into gear with engine running, but goes in no problem when not running.
Don't know if there was recent service work done or how long this issue has persisted
I read through a few threads and I'm thinking either clutch adjustment, clutch plates, or shifter forks being the cause.
If its worst case scenario, what price should I be offering for the bike.
$ 2500 sound reasonable.
Thanks for the input.

Without pics and more info on the bike it is difficult to offer advice.
Probably should pass on it but let me know where it is and i will let the seller know you aren't interested. :D

A running bike with only a sketchy clutch for $2500 sounds like a good deal to me.

A lot depends on your mechanical ability and CBX knowledge.

Even though the ProLinks have the best clutch over the early models, depending on mileage (kilometerage?) and previous use, can still wear out.

Personally, I'd snap it up in a heartbeat. But, there's nothing in a CBX that I can't fix.

FWIW, all the CBX's I build are either '81 or '82.

$2500 for a complete runner is almost always a good deal.
