Honda - A Japanese Manufacturer?

Honda Motors is increasing its production capacity in North America. Honda is expanding the production capacity of several U.S. and Canadian plants and is building a new factory in Celaya, Mexico.
When the Mexican plant reaches full capacity, Honda's North American operations will export more vehicles than it imports from Japan.
The export total could rise to 200,000 vehicles a year.
In 2011, 85% of Honda's vehicles sold in NA were built in seven assembly plants in that region.
After the expansion push, 95% of the vehicles Honda sells in NA will be made here and the region will account for about 50% of Honda's global production capacity.
Considering that Honda has plants in Europe, this will make North America the largest production base for Honda. Larger than Japan.

The annoying fact is, that many foreign companies believe in North America and the U.S. as a viable production location while domestic companies still think it makes sense to relocate production to China or India.
