Great news & not-great news
Good day, all - I hope that you've had the best holiday season of your lives and that you're excited about the new year!
I'm excited because my son is gonna become a big brother early this summer. I've started cutting weight and going back to yoga to help my tired old bod cope with the demands of looking after a toddler and a newborn at the same time - I'm basically treating this like when I've trained for half-marathons in the past.
But based on how things went down when my first kid arrived, I'm assuming that I'm going to get basically no seat time on the motorcycles this year, which is not-great news. Given that the carbs need a lot of love before I can really enjoy the CBX as I want to, I've decided to defer that expense and spare the expense of insurance for 2018. I'll ride my wife's Ducati as much as I can this year and hopefully get good old Perry back into his element in 2019.
I'll still enjoy poking around here to get my CBX fix vicariously!

Being the devoted husband that I am, I've agreed to put some miles on my wife's Ducati next year - you know, to help her out so it doesn't suffer from being idle. You know what, I think we might need just one more tube of diaper lotion - you nap with the baby while I run out to the drugstore.Larry Zimmer wrote:BU-u-u-u-t...... the littl one will need plenty nap time, yes!? I've already picked up 4-piston calipers and snowflake rotors for it... It's gonna take all of my moral strength to keep from splurging on forged Marchesini wheels, LSL fatbar, SR2 swingarm, and new fork internals. It's tough being supportive of a spouse who likes their bike as it is!

"As it is!!" Heaven forbid! That poor woman needs all the help you can give her. By all means, do be so selfless volunteering to run those little errands. Stay warm.

Re: Great news & not-great news
So, I'm moving the bike into longer-term storage soon (it will be off the road for 1-2 years). It's full of ethanol-free gasoline now - should I drain the tank and carbs, or leave it wet? If wet, should I use fuel stability or not?

If the tank is full-full, I'd say leave it. Definitely would add Stabil. Double dose.

Leave the tank full and you should have drained the carbs last Fall. No stabilizer.

Do you think adding stabiliser is actually a negative impact or just no benefit Dave?

If it is sitting for 2 years i would think even ethanol-free gas would be compromised, stabilizer or not.

Re: Great news & not-great news
In non-ethanol fuel, little or no benefit. In fact, stabilizer in some fuel can turn to gel and plug everything up. Spent a week cleaning the fuel systems on my (then)2 CBXs of the crap. You're on your own with ethanol fuel.

Lucas makes a good stabilizer for ethanol fuel but 2 yrs is pushing it, before I started using it I also had the brand (Stabil) fuel stabilizer turn to jell and have never used it again.

Re: Great news & not-great news
The reason for having fuel in the tank is to prevent rust. Why use gasoline? Use something else. Diesel comes to mind. Just fill it, and disconnect your fuel line so you don't accidentally run it into the carbs.

Yuo on the diese, Rick. If one is doing that length of storage, diesel or kerosene would be the way to go. And, ditto about disconnecting he fuel line!! Interesting experiences with Stabil, et al. I've had a bike sit two years with half a tank and double dose Stabil. Started and ran fine after about 3 seconds cranking. (Wasn't the CBX. Although, it will often sit with half tank for 6 months with no issue.) Not disputing other experiences. Just reporting my own experience. Definitely like Rick's idea the best.
