not ANOTHER 50CC

Post by cbxtacy »

I'm also considering a 50cc (coast to coast in 50 hours) from San Diego to Savannah, GA. Then a casual return, doing about 300 to 500 miles a day and stopping in towns where CBX'ers live. If we do the 50cc the weekend after Labor Day, traffic will be light. Then Monday morning we can ride up the coast from Savannah to Jacksonville, NC. Home of Mike Morley. Our presence could awaken him out of hibernation. From there Tuesday to Deals Gap. Good place to spend the night. Wednesday we will go to Memphis. Bike Night every Wed in Memphis. They close off Beale street except for bikes. We'll park right in front of BB Kings Club. Thursday to Oak Grove, MO, just east of Kansas City. Friday to Omaha, NE to visit Dan Uhing. He said we could ride his single sided swing arm CBX down I 80 as fast as we want to. And he'll pickup the tab for dinner and drinks at the restaurant on top of Harrah's casino in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Really. (That alone should get The Pope on this adventure) Saturday to Chris's in Longmont, CO. He's cool. He'll let us take his bikes off-roading. Sunday to Green River, Utah. We might check out Moab on the way. Monday and all the tourists are at home with the kids in school and we ride over the Devils Backbone, Bryce, Zion, VIRGIN River gorge (yes, there are virgins in the gorge), to Mesquite, NV. From there, we might split up if others need to return but I plan on heading to Alice's restautrant for dinner in the hills above San Jose on Tuesday. I figure we can get really stupid in the hills because the way Terry rides and he still has his license means he probably has good connections (or a good lawyer on retain) and he can save us from embarressment. South from San Jose in the morning, Wednesday I believe by then, to San Diego. That's all folks.

And if you want to follow us on our 50cc, Dan and I will probably have http://www.tourtank.com/tourtanks.html on our bikes and do 300+ miles between stops. Where's the 'I gotta pee' emoticon?

I have never done a casual coast to coast. This should be a great opportunity to see some of the country. If possible I'd like CBX owners close to or in planned stopping locations to help by finding suitable (cheap) lodging and maybe help with any vehicle problems in their neck of the woods? Here's a preliminary list of locations and dates:
Sep 7-Savannah, GA
Sep 8-Jacksonville, NC
Sep 9-Deals Gap http://www.tapocolodge.com/
Sep 10-Memphis http://www.peabodymemphis.com/peabody_m ... emphis.cfm
Sep 11-Oak Grove/Kansas City, MO
Sep 12-Omaha, NE
Sep 13-Longmont, CO
Sep 14-Green River, UT
Sep 15-Mesquite, NV http://www.oasisresort.com/
Sep 16-San Jose, CA
Sep 17-San Diego, CA http://seacoast-inn-imperial-beach.pacificahost.com/

I might start posting links to possible places to stay.
If I post a link to a hotel that is a wee bit pricey, it's because I've been there and it's reeeaaallllyy nice. That doesn't mean we have to stay there.

and if you make it all the way back to San Diego with us, there's nothing to do there

inspiration

and 2008 is the 30th anniversary of the CBX and I'd love to see a big (really big) group of CBX's traversing across the country. Big enough to stop traffic.
