My god, wyly - that's wonderful.
English wheel is like black f'n magic to me. The end result looks like a million bucks.

It's black magic to me as well I'm continually guessing what anvil to use and which direction to roll, how much pressure or bend to apply . I learn a little bit more every time I use it.
On my other ride the GSX1150 I'm replacing the entire fairing and body panels with 5052 aluminum, it's been a struggle but I hope to be done by spring.

English wheel shouldn't be so much "black magic". It is all about stretching the metal on one side and compressing it on the other, thus producing a curvature.

At a very basic level but it's so much more complex than that.

Re: What did you do to your bike today?
Well, you can make a science of almost everything. I always got a kick out of the teachers and professors who wanted to present the basic 1+1=2 as a complex science. I have an English Wheel in my basement, that I have used for a multitude of projects from Harley body parts to car floor pans and it is not much more "stretch and compress". No doubt, it is an excellent tool for a body shop and it needs quite some skills to master, but it is not rocket science.

Re: What did you do to your bike today?
too cold in my garage at the moment and I'm waiting for a new tool to arrive from Eastwood. But I'v made considerable progress on GSX conversion/modification.
I started with a oem restoration, done
Then I decided it needed a better repaint and convert to a solo ride, done
Needed better suspension and MORE power and torque, done
Not happy with paint that gets scratched and panel pegs that repeatedly break decide to try my hand at sheet metal fabrication, not done
Massive learning curve, English wheel, stretcher, shrinker, sheet metal brake, mallets, sand bag, dollies, assorted hammers, brazing so much more to learn.
Quality is improving as I progress, I hope to have fairing complete by spring and electronics moved to a new location under the seat or the tail cowl.
Upper cowl is proving to be real challenge without any aluminum welding skills.

Re: What did you do to your bike today?
Started my X first time since July. Ran nicely but started leaking gas out of the carbs. Took it for a brief ride and it stopped leaking. I think it was coming somewhere from between the carbs and I'm suspecting vent T's, perhaps one or more of the float valves stuck open
I hope it stays this way but i'll be pulling them off to check this winter

Way more likely is one or more of the fuel joints were leaking, then the o-rings swelled up and sealed. A leaking float valve would put fuel out the bowl drains.

What I've been doing nearly everyday in recent months, converting plastic bits to alloy.

I have an old Grumman canoe that might be in need of your services.
I'll check into shipping costs.
Nice work, Robert.

Re: What did you do to your bike today?
I've reached a point in my alloy fairing fabrication today that I wasn't confident I'd ever achieve. There were many difficult days but with the final panel now in place and the end is clearly in sight.
Still a lot of work ahead in final fitment, sanding, polishing but I'm confident it'll be ready for riding season in three months.
A few smaller panels I'm not pleased with need to be replaced. An alloy chain guard, possibly the front fender and tail cowl but I'm not against leaving a bit of red on the head and tail. Relocating the electrical components and battery to a tray under the seat or tail cowl, not sure which is best yet.

Impressive work. Very nice.

Either garage is too small or we have too many bikes. Or Momma's car needs to go outside.
